Some of my favorites from my recent visit back in my native country Sweden.
Born and raised city girl that moved, I took some things for granted when I lived at home - so going back to visit, I took the opportunity to see some of the things I didn't bother with when I actually lived there. Lets say I played tourist in the town I grew up in. ;)

Cookies & Cocoa with Santa.

Helped a local school take portraits of kids and Santa for the second year in a row.

Got to hear the wonderful choir sing (some classics and some not so classical songs) and snap pictures of Santa with all the kids. Here's a few from the day's work...

6 Month Portraits

This is starting to be the fun age, I truely enjoy the 6 and 9 month sessions, they sit, lay, almost crawl...they're usually very happy and respond to talking and so on, you get such good shots of them at this age.

More Seniors

I believe this will be my last senior of the year, unless I get someone who's brave enough to do outdoor shots in the snow and cold. ;)
We did some simple indoor shots with a variety of clothing and then ventured out in the field for some shots of the barn and wooded area.

Same girl - we had some outdoor portraits done as well.
My neighbor has an old barn that has a certain charm to it and works well for all kids of portraits, we utilized that as well as the woods above it for these outdoor shots.

Sweet Newborn!

This little fella was only 3 weeks old and so calm and laid back, never seen such a newborn. He didn't mind the posing and the flipping and turning, he just went back to sleep when he was "posed".

Family & Newborn

Had a family shoot with this lovely family after the arrival of their baby girl. Got some quick family shots, which is what it tends to be with toddlers and babies in the mix.

The youngest brother was very active and didn't really want to sit down for his shots, I managed to squeeze off a few shots before he was up and at it. The oldest brother really like the smurfs and wanted those as his props, think they turned out cute.

Then the baby girl treated us to some smiles for her newborn shots, ain't she the cutest?

Happy 5 Year Old!

My youngest just turned 5 and I had to get some new shots of him.
He did fair for his age, I let him pick his outfits and what he took his pictures with - he loved the #5 prop, he thinks those are the neatest props and then the cubes...nothing like big boxes you can climb on. ;)

My darling daughter turned 8 while we were in Sweden, so somewhat delayed 8 year portraits got done recently, she did so good and mommy got a TON of photos of her this time.
Luckily she's a camera ham and don't mind the hair fixing, the clothing changes and so on. ;)

Stockholm by Night

During my stay in Sweden I had the opportunity to run into town late one evening (has to be late since the sun doesn't set til closer to 10-11pm at night) and shoot some sights around Stockholm. I stayed around Old Town where I got vantage points of:

Swedish-Finnish Archipelago

While visiting in my native Stockholm (Sweden), my family and I also traveled to Turku, Finland where I have relatives. The easiest way is to take one of the many ships that leave towards Finland twice a day - you get some wonderful archipelago and sea views from there.

Also one of the last days in Stockholm, I took my family out in Stockholm's archipelago, to one of the islands I had visited with school as a little girl; Feather Islands (or Fjäderholmarna as Swedes call it). A nice 25 minute boat trip from Stockholm, perfect for a daily excursion.

These numbers are getting to be popular props - got to snap some birthday pictures of this happy 5 year old.
Cute and sassy. And we added some early 3 year portraits of her younger brother as well. Kids this age are on the go so, not so many sit down and smile type shots, which is fine - these add so much more character when the kids are happy and loose.

More pet portraits

I shot some pet portraits of dogs the other day.
Pet portraits are a little interesting, you never know how the dogs will react - I did have two characters though.
The one dog (the golden) was very social and wanted to be in every shot, weather or not he was the subject. Then you had the other one (the lab) who refused to look, despite you calling her name. LOL
It was interesting to say the least...I do like these shots I got of them though.

Full Moon in town!

Came home via Charleston the other night and looking in the rear view mirror we saw this beautiful full moon rising, so we took a detour by the capitol (like many others I noticed).
I spent 20mins trying to find the right angle to get both the dome and the moon in the best view....definitely worth a revisit! Ain't it pretty?

Santa Meet & Greet

I helped a local school do portraits with Santa for their Christmas Program this year.
The volunteers did a great job decorating, the music teacher put up a great music program and the kids were delighted to see Santa. I just love portraits with kids, even in such different settings such as this one.
I just had to share some from this day - certainly gets you in the holiday spirit to see these.

Autumn Family Portraits

I went out to a farm with 2 families a couple of weeks ago and captured some portraits of the families playing with the kids and just being families. Something a little different for me, since most that have came wanted the studio set up and "look here and smile" sort of portraits.

We certainly got portraits that were a little different than my normal ones - perhaps a trend is starting?
I also did a midnight sepia treatment on these samples to make them look a bit more "dreamy" - a good remedy against the harsh sunlight that day.

Bridal Portraits

Reflections of childhood.

6-9 months - this is the age when little ones are starting to be fun to photograph.
They interact with you when you talk to them, they can usually sit or starting to stand so you can get a little better poses than the "I'm just laying here like a burrito" look. :)

Had the pleasure to work with this little ham a week ago, he was in SUCH a good mood and the mom got more than enough poses to choose from. Here's a couple of my favorite shots from this session:

I always try to include at least a couple of collages with all my sessions. I know people like more bang for their buck and want to display a lot of photos - what a better way to do it than with a collages.

Recently I've been playing with square formats - my most recent bound photo books for clients are square, as are my new collages, I find them more eye catching than the regular 8x10 format.

Its been a few years since I was down in Charleston for their 4th of July fireworks.
I did manage to get down there this year and what a display it was:

Hopefully I'll have a chance to go down there again next year and get better seats/view of the display but the vantage point I had wasn't bad this year, just some extras in the picture (such as people, buildings, lights).

Spent a nice week down in Florida on the gulf (before the oil reached their beautiful beaches) in early June and snapped some new ones for my PAFP galleries. I also snapped a few new ones from our beautiful state of WV: Hawks Nest and New River Gorge Bridge.

Something a little different.

With spring here I've been snapping a little around the gardens to add some color to my pictures after a long winter. Some pink geraniums and sorbet colored voilas adds splashes of color.

And trying something different for portraits - I visited a lake a few weeks ago and watching the kids try to skip rocks on the surface I noticed they got nicely silhouetted by the glare on the water and ended up with these portraits of them.

A Scout's Salute!

This year marks the 100yr anniversary of scouting.

I invested in a new spring background which I took some test shots of today.

I'm excited, it looks cute and works with both boys and girls.

Newborn Session

My oldest newborn by far and technically not even 0 days old yet.

This little preemie had his portraits done around a month and still had a few more days til his due date. As with most of my other newborns, he decided to be wide awake during the pictures, but I guess that has turned into a signature for me now - wide awake newborn portraits. :o)

Painting with Lights

Thought I'd try my hand at something different.

I read an article about playing with long exposure, moving of camera and such and esp a light source with a lot of lights, like a Christmas tree. Well I figured it couldn't be too hard, so I set it up and sure enough the results are a bit unusual but fun. So I thought I'd post a few.

Its definitely not for everyone but its a bit out of the ordinary for me - and I'm going to try find more of these type things to photograph, it was a fun little side project.

Christmas Portraits

Christmas is almost here, its not too late to do a small session!

Get some great portraits of the kids or family and put them on Christmas cards, or even make a canvas print and give away to loved ones for Christmas?

You can have Christmas cards done locally in a couple of days and still send them out in time for Christmas. Canvas' usually take about a week but the results are well worth it - they print fabulous and looks great on the wall. I even offer a painted look so your portraits when printed on canvas will look like a painting.

Portrait time

My 9 year old just had a birthday recently and of course just like all other parents I wanted updated portraits of him - the school portrait he came home with just wasn't sufficient so I wanted to do some myself.

We start with him and his siblings for the Christmas card this year, which goes well and the kids take off playing. Now trying to coax my 9 yr old into doing his own, he asks: Why? You just took some last year!

LOL, I explained I wanted some updated pictures since he change his looks from year to year and its only once a year. He just couldn't get why I needed to redo the pictures EVERY year, wasn't once every 2-3 years enough?

Well it gave me a chance to play with some new "treatments" - one of my favorite is this B&W version, it does real well on most portraits.

Senior Portraits

The window for outdoor/environmental portraits is quickly closing up but you can still have studio portraits made. One of the last ones for this season was done in the middle of October.

Sports Portraits

I tried my hand at some football pictures a few weeks ago; I had 3 boys help me out.

Fall is one of my favorite parts of year.

I love the colors of autumn, it gives such a color punch to portraits.

Venice of the North

I spent the last part of July in Sweden visiting family.

And having 10 days needing to occupy myself with something I spent a lot of time walking around snapping pictures around Stockholm.

I visited Drottningholm (royal family's residence), Old Town, Djurgården, Kungsholmen, östermalm, not to mention several castles outside of Stockholm - Gripsholm in Mariefred, Skokloster in Sigtuna, Edsberg in Sollentuna, Rosersberg & Steninge in Märstal, Ulriksdal & Haga in Solna.

Some New Props

I aquired some new children's props this spring and since I had to take some new portraits of my 2 youngest I decided to try out the new stuff. I aquired a new paper color - orchid.

And I got these cute little ducklings (& a rabbit which we didn't use, maybe this fall or next spring?) - my kids were SO excited about these. As you can see I got some good shots of the kids with them.

Then I got a new petal mat, this one will be good for newborns through seniors. The previous mat I got is a bit rough to lay on, esp younger kids and infants, but this one seem to work well. It's a nice cream color so its fairly unisex for newborns.

And I got these blocks which I've repainted in primary colors (+ green). I thought about adding ABC and 123 on them but I figured I could do that digitally or even put the child's name and age in the openings.

When the end of spring comes close you start hearing about graduations, both for High Schoolers and Preschoolers. I got the opportunity to snap some portraits at a local preschool, the kids did really good posing and I got some good shots of all of them, some a bit more serious than others. ;o)

1st Birthday with Cake.

As I've said before, this is one of my favorite sessions to do.

I love setting the kids down with balloons and their own cake to smash to pieces, its so festive and you can't beat the expressions most kids give.

This little fella was so excited about his balloons and cake and he kept looking and giggling at the cake the entire time. We sat him down and he was so neat with the cake, just picking off the sprinkles, barely touching the icing. Finally mom smashed his hand into it and it resulted in a minute's worth of crying til he realized there was CAKE underneath it and then he went to town on it eating and smearing.

Love the results, so cute and messy.

3rd Birthday Portraits.

At age 3 you're starting to get a little more co-operation from toddlers (at least compared to 1 or 2 year olds), in fact this little lady started with her own poses and to be honest she did a great job. Like the one of her laying on the floor was one of my favorites and completely her doing.

Then we tried a few new things as well...

I had seen this neat photo of arranging letters for the child's name in different fonts and colors and we decided to try that; the mom loved it, and it turned out so cute.

And I tried an old favorite pose as well, more or less a silhouette from waist up, it turned out pretty cute I think.

Family and Infant Portraits

Got a chance to photograph 2 families this weekend as well as some Infant and Toddler sessions.

The family ones turned out really nice, I always stress that I won't get a nice shot when there's more than 3 people and esp with 3 under 7, kids are so unpredictable. But they did really good and I got several nice shots of them.

Also snapped some individual of the kids. The two older kids were hams and then the little baby was so cute, she was bound and determined not to stay on the set, first chance she got she crawled off with super speed.

A couple of the sessions I had booked for this month got canceled and of course my fingers got itchy for something to photograph, so I found other things to capture this month - one of them being some orchids at a local conservatory that I visited.

Orchids is one of my favorite flowers, which is quite apparent when you look at my galleries - Orchids got their own gallery because I've photographed so many of them now! :o)

Scout Portraits

There's nothing like photographing kids...

After my most recent session of formal headshots I still had my gear set up and my 2 year old was running around wanting attention, I put him on the stool and thought ok, he's game lets take some nice pictures of him for the grandparents.

Well if you have kids you should know now that things never turn out like you expect them too.
My 2 year old was game alright but not in the way I thought. 1 image out of I don't know how many was a smile and fairly nice, the rest were faces as these below...

Professional Head Shots.

I had the opportunity to take some more headshots this month...

This woman was needing some more "formal" portraits for her professional website among other things. We tried several different shirts to come up with something she really liked. She preferred the more colorful shirts and ended up picking the first image below, which also happened to be my favorite.

New Year - New Site!

I finally got my new website launched:

I'm so excited about it, it features things I've been looking for, and which doesn't require a lot of time and effort to update which my previous sites have done.
One of the new features I hope my clients will like is their private log in pages.
After I'm done with a session I will email a link and password to my clients, where they will be able to log in and view their portraits in a private gallery, in the comfort of their own home. With it being password protected means that only THEY have access to those images - privacy is something most clients want and I can finally offer that with this website.

Something else I'm working on is setting up an option for clients to purchase prints online/pay with a credit or debit card. I'm hoping it will be up and running by the end of January.

Session of a Lifetime!

I think I just had one of a lifetime shot in front of me. I had a family booked a session for family portraits the days before Christmas...so far all normal, done plenty of those. The night before the session a family member calls and gives me notice of something unusual is going to happen tomorrow, its certainly the first for me, and they want it captured on film.

So they come, we do the normal family shots (like above), and then out of the blue, at least for the girl, the boyfriend gets on one knee and proposes - which of course I photographed.
One in a lifetime shots, how many people have a photographer on hand to record the proposal? Well obviously the girl was shocked but accepted so we got an engagement shot for the paper as well.

With the new year comes a new website!
I'm in the process of building my new website where you'll be able to browse my portfolio, read a brief intro about me, and I'm also adding Customer Login Pages. I will offer my clients a private login and password to access their images, view them in the comfort of their own home and hopefully after New Years also place an order and pay online.

Almost Christmas time again.

Almost time for my favorite season of all; Christmas. I just finished up my autumn portraits, mostly various family photos done, I did get to try out the bridge I got several months ago on my kids. I was hoping my oldest would be into the whole "fishing" theme but not so much. The youngest is 2 so obviously getting him to listen is hard. My daugther was a good sport though and got some cute ones of her. I also managed to bribe all 3 of mine for a fall portrait, I doubt I'll get them to co-operate for a Christmas photo, but I thought this one was kind of cute, hopefully I'll be able to work it into some sort of Christmas card.

My oldest had another birthday so time for annual portraits of him as well, I do think I like taking pictures of other peoples kids more than my own, my own always put up such a fuss. My oldest is very much into fake smiles and he kept insisting they were genuine 'til I showed him one of his worst fake smiles he gave me - after that he was all about joking and cracking up. Whatever works I suppose, its like bribing my youngest with a sucker for his. :o)

Autumn is almost past.

Its been a quick autumn, seems like it came and left so fast this year. I was really hoping to get out to get some outdoor fall portraits but the leaves turned so fast I didn't get a chance to this year. However I did get to take some fall themed portraits this weekend:

I took some of my kids and their cousins, not the easiest thing to do with such a wide range of ages: 8,5,2,2, and 4 months. But I think we got a few printables, this one was my favorite. I also took a fall portrait of just my niece and nephew - never seen such a happy 4 month old either, we got a lot of good shots of him.

And of course Aunt Sue has to be cruel and try her new prop even though he's gotten almost a bit too big for it. The tea cup! I had to see how it would turn out. Not bad huh, sort of cute and different, I think the best part was his expressions.

Autumn is coming!

With autumn coming it is a perfect time to get some family portraits done with the shifting colors outside and cooler temperatures. Seniors: Its not too late to book a session yet either, your outdoor portraits will be nice with some richer colors too (see specials and coupons for money saving offers!).
I have added some new backdrops to use as well as a few new props, a chaise for anything between family, to maternity and bridal portraits. A bridge to use with infants-children's fishing theme (complete with bamboo fishing pole and JD bibbed overalls) and a new tea cup to use with infants and a few other goodies. And with autumn coming I'll be featuring my "haybale with wagon wheel, apples and leaves" again - such a simple and perfect setting for fall portraits. (Picture of fall set below, picture of bridge set coming soon!)

I also added some new links to my blog; a link to my temporary website until I get a new one launched - hopefully in the next few months. Also a link to my specials and coupons page I've got listed on my temporary website - use those coupons and specials during your next session. I also started offering Gift Certificates for your purchase, a great way to give family or friends some new nice portraits. Pay for the session, or give them some pre-paid prints, its up to you.

In the next few weeks I will be adding a new sub album in my gallery, I've had requests for art prints, so I will be adding some nature, landscape and still life portraits that will be available for purchase. So keep an eye out for those. I'm sure there will be quite a few lighthouse pictures among those, those are my new obsession - I adore lighthouses and got to see plenty of them on our recent vacation to South Carolina and Georgia beaches.

Maternity Sessions

Really behind on these, these were taken in April if I'm not mistaken? These two girls wanted to take some maternity pictures together, never done anything like that before and apparently neither has anyone else, I was trying to find some poses for two but everything out there is couples. So we improvised a bit. I had them pick their favorite poses and we tried to make it a dual pose. They came up with the Tennis rackets, they both used to play Tennis in high school so it was a bit personal to do that one.

I also added some sibling photos to this one, I never got to do a session with siblings involved and thought these turned out so precious, in fact I did a collage showing off a series of these with her looking, listening, kissing and hugging the belly. It was too cute.

And my favorite photo from each of their individual sessions. There was a lot of the same poses, but these two really stuck out as my favorites for each of them. The blond girl had seen a similar pose elsewhere and wanted to try a "toga" portrait for hers, I wasn't really thrilled with it til I started playing with black and white and different "actions", I LOVE how this one came out with a glow. And seeing the brunette was a bit further along (about a month), she was rounder around the belly so she got some great belly shots. I loved this pose with the booties the first time I tried it, and love it still - its dramatic lighting and a simple pose. My favorite.

Pre-School Portraits

I'm a bit behind on posts, these were taken end of May.
It was that time again this spring (May), to do pre-school pictures. I got a chance to do some more traditional poses I like, and this little pre school graduate let me try some new ones as well, I think with a little tweaking it might be a returning pose for me (sitting on the books).

He did good and we got some nice poses of him.

I also took some portraits of my daugther as she graduated pre-school but for variety I just put this little fella up here - my daugther's portraits can be seen in my portfolio in the link on the side here.

2 Year Portraits

These were taken 2nd weekend in July as well.

Our little stinkpot turned 2 in July, so portrait time for him too. Well clearly he isn't as keen on portraits and posing as his sister, I had the hardest time getting him to sit still, we tried all sorts of props to get him interested. Despite our troubles I think I got a few that I liked myself (with the help from suckers as you can see!), just wish there was more and better. Maybe better luck next year? And those who know us, know how much our oldest LOVES his dinosaurs, as you can see on the last image, "little bit" has inhertited that love for dinos too.

5 Year Old Portraits

These were taken 2nd weekend in July.

Time to take portraits of my kids again, my daugther just turned 5 and of course we needed some new snazzy pictures of her. This way mommy got to try out her new investments (backdrops). Of course the one we tried had to be pink since she LOVES pink.

I do think I just got some new favorite portraits of her, she did fabulous this year.

Newborn Portraits

These were taken at the end of May/begining of June.

Got to take some newborn portraits again. I must have really bad luck with newborns, they never sleep like you see all these little babies do in other portraits. Mine are always active and alive, at least this little fella was at least co-operative. Got myself a new favorite portrait too, this portrait of him and his mommy I find absolutely adorable, almost wish it was myself so I could print it big and frame it!

These were taken first weekend in May.

I had the pleasure of taking pictures of Granny in the begining of May. She's such a sweet old lady, and for being so weak she sure did wonderful taking the portraits, she's a young 91 years old. Her children wanted some nice portraits of her and in collaboration with her children we came up with these studio portrait settings. We got some nice headshots of her as well, I just liked these because they showed off the settings - it was hard coming up with something age appropriate, esp since most of my props are more kid-oriented at the moment.

One of her daugthers also wanted some portraits of herself, when we were talking about doing Granny's portraits. I do believe these were taken in the begining of April. We did simple headshots and sitting in chair portraits. I like how these two came out myself.
